A tale for romantics at heart

Powerful Provocative Presence

The Man and the Sea

She’s rolling and writhing, twisting and turning today
And he’d like to feel her arms wrapped around him to play
But he can’t leave the shore, and he doesn’t know what to say
So be watches her closely, wishing he could be
The blue of her calm, sunlit bay
“Mar,” he whispers, feeling a chill where the wind whips round his hair
“Ven dame tu alma,” Come give me your soul –
While the Wind replies to him, “Take care.”
Cause she’s a vindictive lover, possessive, she’ll smother –
While you breathe your last breath of air…
But he didn’t listen
He wanted her kiss then –
No other lover would ever compare
And Wind soon grew weary of his nonchalant view, and died
And Mar beckoned to him, with waves of seduction –
By flowing and ebbing her tide
He watched a while longer, and his yearning grew stronger
Like an ember becoming a fire
Only she could cleanse him, feed his burning hunger –
Satisfy his fervent desire…
She was his vision, perfection unequalled
Every mans reason to love
Without her he’d crumble, falter and stumble –
Below the blue sky above…
Take me for your lover, you’ll not need another –
He claimed as he paced on the shore
But she ignored him while dancing before him –
So that he wanted her more
And he felt his hopes dash, when her furious waves crashed
Against the rocks, like his heart
And anger bred conceit, he warned her of defeat –
And threatened that he would then part
But dawn found him sitting alone in the sand –
His eyes a dark intense stare
Then he rose and stepped forward, this time with no warning
Since Wind was no longer there
“Te perdono mi amor,” I forgive you, my love –
And I’m coming to hold you right now
To taste your sweetness, to feel your completeness
I’ll love you forever, he vowed
They say there’s a legend of a man and the sea –
Her seduction was too much to bear
And he swam into her, his hands outstretched
Like lovers stroke each others hair…
And sometimes at dawn, when her shore is empty
And her secrets long to be free
You can hear a faint voice, though no one is there –
“Mi amor, viene a mí.” My love, come to me…

Something a Bit Different II…

There is a custom where canoes in the ocean are paddled into a formation. In silence, leis are placed gently in the water, setting them free. In devotion, hands thrash the water as wailing is offered to the sky. When I was in my thirties, violence tore someone away from me, twice. The second time the loss was permanent. I wrote this as an offering of my pain, acceptance, and understanding that eventually time would erode the bitter and replace it with the sweet. And for the most part, it has. Loss is a shared experience that is unique to each of us. And so, I say – Siempre.

Yearning

Emerald City Grey

I will go there quietly –
To the deep blue water
Although raging deep inside
And I will rest there floating –
Thoughts of you
Drifting with the tide
I will lay your flowers gently
Watch them sway and move away from me
As you have gone, I have gone –
Into this raw cocoon I have withdrawn
And my head bowed, my hands open
I will slap the water with my grief
My hands thrashing, churning
With devotion
My fury at your leaving does not want relief
My palms will crash with fierceness
Against the ocean’s armor
My hands stinging
My heart burning
My whole being… Yearning
This pain won’t be a permanent
Song toward your memory
It will fade to be replaced
By flowing warmth
Eventually
But I reserve the right, in this moment
To writhe and moan, wail and cry
To not give you up so easily
To be incensed by this rending goodbye
To howl like an animal
And hiss like the wind
To scream like a banshee
To curse this place I’m in
And my head bowed, my hands open
I will slap the water with my grief
My hands thrashing, churning
With devotion
My fury at your leaving does not want relief
My palms will crash with fierceness
Against the ocean’s armor
My hands stinging
My heart burning
My whole being… Yearning

Carousel

Fanning Fates Flames?

Nightshade distance in the rearview
I painted the sky crimson for you
Melted the vowels until the words sound
Like warm ocean waves to dive into
We both knew this was coming
We’d stopped spirit dancing long ago to the drumming
Behind the lids of your eyes sleeps the carousel ride
With those heart shaped swans that are constantly humming…
How can I ever forget you?
All these scars on soft skin that you’ve tattooed
All these ghosts in cruel dreams that unravel the seams –
Of soft spoken gleams that I cling to
There is no sound in the drowning
Only shadows that fall down while surrounding
Come watch me bleed through these words I don’t need –
In this dim smoky room
That’s become my cocoon –
While inky breath of despair I’m expounding…
I stir the stars into shadows of vexed crows
Prophets of tumescent ruin and woe
Dahlia tear-ladened curled parchment pages
Lament of missed love I was cursed only to borrow
Your brutally beautiful haunting moon eyes
I take it all back; I want to revise
Running down my heart like red candle wax –
All of your too good to be… pretty poison butterflies…
Did you ever consider how a reprieve
Would give me a chance to steal air so that I could breathe?
Would give me time to locate a gypsy sky to hide my pain
Until I salvaged faith, hope and love that I again could weave?
And this peculiar drowning has a familiar note sounding
This novella I write of dead words that have become my surrounding
I bleed vocabulary that traces love like it was a poetic weed –
In this dim, dusty gin and cigarette smoky room
That’s become – The gins gone; Now its a whiskey cocoon –
Loves tentacle web pasted cadaver dreams in inky-rouged prose I’m expounding…
Bordeaux scented rune astral kiss
Tasted like candy-coated starlit amulet bliss
Time reveals its reasons through dream sequence seasons
If you’ll step through the mystical veil to reminisce
I can see our distance in the rearview
Finally I’m moving past you
But all these dream catchers, signs, totems and motifs
Make this fire dance an inferno in which I can’t refract or subdue
